Well kids, it looks like we are at it again... The owner of the prestigious natutalist..or was it naturist.. ? it doesn't matter - because evidentially I don't know the difference.. anyway, White Tail's owner, Bob Roche deserves an apology from SpeedMonkey.

It seems like we didn't quite get the story correct. After I read the write up on FOX's website, I was so enraged at the story that I had to write about it.. I didn't take into consideration all the facts. So for that Mr. Roche I apologize. Your public defender took the time to compose a well written email, so the least I can do is respond in kind.

I was wrong. Completely and utterly wrong. Your public defender clearly showed me that it is perfectly fine to run a nudist camp for juveniles 11 - 18. There is nothing more to say. Had I understood what kind of wholesome family oriented environment Mr. Roche is trying establish, I would have never posted the article.

So kids, parents.. you can have a ball or even two for that matter at the sprawling White Tail Park.

This will probably be a futile exercise, but if you REALLY want to know, allow me to address a few points for Mr. Roche who is so busy creating a wholesome, family-oriented environment for recreation that he shouldn't have to also be protecting his reputation by battling the likes of you who are constantly trying to tear down what somebody else has built up and, for the sake of sensationalism, doing so while negatively influencing the opinions of an uninformed public.

Then we'll see if you have half the decency of Mr. Roche by publicly apologizing and setting the record straight (something you obviously didn't know about or obviously didn't care about before publishing the misleading and slanted piece introduced with inflamatory words like "CockRoach" and "piggy").

Mr. Public Defender.. that's 2 "m's" in inflaMMatory. Spend less time defending nudists and more time spell checking.

Point 1 - You wrote, "Bob Roche, is the proud owner and caretaker of Southampton County's White Tail Park in Virginia... now what's the big deal about owning a this park? Nothing if you like watching little kids running around naked and unsupervised."

Since you brought it up, perhaps YOU would like to watch little kids running around naked. But why would you assume Bob Roche does?

Umm.. I never assumed that Bob did.. nor did I write it.. I'm just stating the fact that White Tail Park is a great resort if you like to watch kids running around naked. The point is, when people go on a vacation, they want to know what they are in for. Now personally, when I vacation, I want to know what the 'resorts' policy is on children.. So I am being responsible here by informing the 'uniformed' public that White Tail Park is a great place.. there just happens to be naked children running around.

And the fact is, little kids don't run around here unsupervised.

The fact is that children under the age of 18 at White Tail Park ARE supervised by their parents, grandparents, legal guardians or other adults trusted by those parents, 365 days of the year (this is a year-round resort).

Furthermore, a Youth Activities Coordinator is a paid staff position here during summer weekends and parents take turns volunteering to assist with various events and activities.

How Can I get a job as a 'Youth Activities Coordinator?" What are the prerequisites.

If you got the mistaken idea that children are not supervised from a news story about the week-long youth summer camp held here last year, then please know it should have been referring SOLEY to the children enrolled in that camp during that ONE week and ONLY to supervision directly by parents.

Ahh.. much better... thank you for clearing that one up. As long as it's only ONE week.. then really there is no problem here.

Apparently omitted was the fact that those children were directly supervised by trained counselors at a counselor-to-kid ratio of 1.5 to 1. To ensure the complete safety of the kids, all the counselors had extensive background investigations and all were certified by the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR), the developer of these highly-successful summer camps for youth which have been conducted without incident in other parts of the country for the past 14 years.

You can do all the background checking you want... certified by the 'American Association for Nude Recreation?' Who certifies them? Who regulates the AANR? It's like having a fox watch the hen house. The bottom line is, IT IS WRONG for a grown man or woman to supervise, watch or direct nude juveniles; with or without supervision. There is no man or woman on this planet who is exempt from perverse and/or sexual thoughts. Now add naked juveniles.. you wanna talk 'inflamtory'?

During that one-week camp, each entire day for those boys and girls was highly structured with seminars, sports, crafts, games and lessons, as well as fun and relaxation time. Interaction with anyone else at the park was restricted, even with other kids who weren't enrolled.

Although their activities could be observed from a distance, they were isolated from everyone else just as they would be if away attending a regular summer camp. They slept in their own tents in the middle of a cordoned-off open area guarded all night by multiple adult male and female counselors.

The kids used standard commercial portable toilets in their compound instead of the park's restroom facilities. And they ate balanced meals, prepared especially for them, in their own dining facilities.

The reason parents weren't allowed in the kid's area was because, unlike the counselors, none of the parents were screened or had background checks. So, they weren't allowed any opportunity to mingle with any other parent's kids during that period for the PROTECTION of all the kids, as well as for the reputation and liability of White Tail Park and AANR during the time when they were assuming 'in loco parentis' responsibility.

Well, so much for reputation. People like you took care of that, didn't you?

People Like Me? PHUCK YOU!!! The people 'like me' are far more in the majority than lovely public defenders like you.. nice public you're defending.

Given your carelessness with words, it's no wonder you confused "naturalist" with "naturist". You may not know the difference but I'm quite sure Bob Roche does. And I'm willing to bet the misunderstanding was on your part, not his. Naturalists study bears. Naturists promote the advantages, benefits and enjoyment of living as nature intended. That includes the self-esteem of body acceptance and the wholesomeness of social nudism. Learning various perspectives about those values in a fun way by a group of children among their peers, all of whom are already nudists from nudist families, is time well spent. You would know that if you had seen the enthusiasm expressed by the kids themselves at the conclusion of their experience.

Man.. that one is way too easy to touch.. much like I dunno a young naked boy.

Point 3 - You wrote, "What does Bob have to say: 'Sure, it could be a magnet for pedophiles, but we don't let it be. Bob provided a good answer that was self-explanatory and should have reassured anyone about his concern for the welfare of children. It would have been sufficient for most people, had you not taken part of his answer out of context and questioned its validity. You zeroed in on the part about the ineffectiveness of a database to identify sex offenders who have not yet been caught and prosecuted (along with the added word "dick", whatever that's supposed to mean).

Dick: Penis... cock, tool... but I'm sure you've heard them all or at least seen them all...

Well, Bob did NOT say checking online to see if someone is a sex offender was the ONLY step he took to keep out pedophiles. He said "AND" after saying everyone was screened thoroughly. Online databases are just one of the tools he uses so there's no reason not to use them. Exactly what other means he has at his disposal is not for me to advertise. However, I can assure you they are highly effective and he takes advantage of them.

YES, in fact Mr. Public Defender... his other means ARE for you to advertise. If you really want to make a valid point here, then yes, you should divulge what other means Mr. Roche employs. I'm sure all the parents who are lining up to enroll their children want to know. Wouldn't it behoove you to tell us how exactly you are using these 'other means'

Of course, you only have to look as far as 9/11 or a story on the nightly news about a priest to find that people with undesirable motives can get occasionally get around safeguards put in place to thwart them.

Um.. occasionally get around safeguards? Would you consider 1/10 priests 'occasionally?'

But one of the things going against anyone of that ilk who gains access to our facilities is that newcomers seldom realize there are a thousand pairs of eyes watching them for suspicious behavior. And we've taught our kids what to look for, too. And what to do about it. Undesirable persons, even if it is just suspected that they might commit improper behavior, are banned from this park and the management of other parks are alerted.

I bet there are.. eyes in the bushes, in peep holes.. behind the eyes of that weird looking painting that hangs above the mantle...

Point 4 - You wrote, "Anyway The Governor, Mark Warner, has decided to put a stop to this obvious display of wrongness."

There IS no "wrongness" about a professionally developed summer program for minors from nudist families at a nudist camp, whether an obvious display or otherwise. The only thing WRONG about this whole thing is the Governor's decision to enact a law that is not needed because it doesn't accomplish anything (by taking steps to protect the welfare of children) that isn't being done already.

Point 5 - You wrote, "Dude, all the Governor wants to do is to make sure that there is proper supervision."

Well, Dude, there IS proper supervision here without the Governor's unneeded law! (See Point 1 above.)

It just isn't fair to enact a law dictating to parents whose care they are allowed to trust their children with. Use for example the case of two long-time nudist families who belong to the same nudist park in another state and whose children have played together all their lives. One set of parents trusts the other set of parents enough to allow them to take both sets of children to Disneyland for a week. But when they offer to reciprocate by taking the other parents' children with their own to White Tail Park for the summer camp, since neither of the other parents can take off from work that week, they will be prevented from doing so because of this unnecessary and unfair law.

That places the one set of parents in a dilemma. If they choose not to bring their children to the camp those children will have been cheated out of something they wanted to do. If they do choose to bring their children to the camp, the two sets of children will have been separated needlessly and one set will be jealous of the other. And they won't be able to comprehend why the Legislators and Governor of Virginia have done that to them.

Gee, that sucks doesn't it? It's called life. Tell me something.. what is the cost of breaking that trust? What if.. I know, I know.. it NEVER happens.. BUT what IF one set of parents decides to inappropriately touch their neighbor's kid... Kids can't comprehend Legislators and the Governors anyway... I would think that confusion over the Governor's laws is far better than my neighbor hanging out with my naked kids for a week.

You did NOT list the schedule for the youth summer camp. You listed a schedule for our annual JuniorFest (mainly attended by the younger ones of those in the toddler to 10 year-old age group).

Kids of that age love to do anything that's messy. So they are allowed to get it out of their system by having a whole weekend of events making as big a mess as they want with pudding, shaving cream, paint, mud, etc. Cleaning up after each event is easy with a hose.

Then they take a dip in the pool where they can dive for coins, have races on rafts, have fun with pool toys and have competitions with greased watermelons, etc. JuniorFest is ALWAYS supervised and, in fact, actually DEPENDS on the parents to be actively involved. So Bob is certainly not against parental supervision for that!

kids of ALL ages do anything that's messy... so are you excluding the fact that, games with pudding, shaving cream, paint.. and greased watermelons.. are not sexual? you obviously never saw 9 1/2 weeks.

The actual schedule for the summer camps was never published on the White Tail Park website. If it had, you would see that it consisted of things like seminars to discuss the best ways to handle questions about nudism asked by your non-nudist friends, neighbors or schoolmates. Sessions could be tailored to subjects the kids wanted to talk and learn about and could range from how to fight a fire to health and hygiene or how to apply for college scholarships (some of which are offered by AANR).

A considerable amount of time, effort and money has been spent to develop the summer camp program. There are actually three different programs designed explicitly for three different age groups of 11-15, 15-18 and18-25. The Youth Leadership Camp for the 18-25 age group was not held at White Tail Park last year. But some of its graduates from previous years were here participating as junior counselors, who could better relate to the younger children because their views would be more readily accepted than those from the more senior counselors.

So the summer youth camps were not created just for their baby-sitting or entertainment value. They were also created to promote interpersonal skills, teamwork and communications to bridge the obvious gap of understanding and tolerance between nudists and non-nudists.

Point 7 - When Bob Roche called you about the content on your website, he was justifiably angry. You wrote, "nothing has been written here that has accused anybody of anything. Not wrongfully anyway. Nothing has even been implied."

Really? You don't think referring to a summer camp for children from nudist families as "this obvious display of wrongness" is not an accusation or doesn't imply that something is wrong? You don't think saying there is no "big deal about owning" a nudist park "if you like watching little kids running around naked and unsupervised" doesn't imply that it is perverted?

Um.. yes.. I did imply that something was/is wrong. It's called a nudist camp for juveniles.

And what was the point of the photo of two young men in your article? Neither of them is Bob Roche. I've never seen them at White Tail Park. It just seems that you found a photo of two men, who appear that they might have an intimate interest in each other, and inserted it to give the impression that one of them had something to do with the story. You don't call that wrong and unnecessary?

The picture is actually of me and my boyfriend. We've started our own nature camp and I wanted to show people how much fun two nudists can have.

Freedom of Speech? Like yelling "Fire" in a crowed theater or "Hijack" aboard an airliner, just because you feel like it?

WTF??? Are you really a 'public defender?' Yelling 'FIRE' in a theatre can actually cause incident or physical harm to people. It's against the law to misleadingly shout 'FIRE' in a public forum. Yelling 'HIJACK" aboard a plane.. are you seriously comparing that to me stating my personal OPINION of an individual. Come on.

Well, here's MY opinion: You owe Mr. Roche, as well as all your readers, an apology for perpetuating the uncalled for unfairness caused by a biased news story which twisted facts into inaccuracies for the sake of sensationalism. Negative publicity like that is why a Virginia law was passed that is not only UNNEEDED, it threatens to deny the livelihood of the most morally decent man I've ever met.

Bob, I apologize. It seems that running a nudist camp for juveniles is morally acceptable but more importantly, it's NOT against the law. Evidently, you are one of very few men who aren't affected by the sight of young naked girls.

No, I don't think so. Since neither you nor your readers know the truth about White Tail Park, the summer camp or social nudism (if you did you wouldn't have written what you did), I would say the only difference between you and your readers is that you are wise-cracking about something you read, but haven't researched, and your readers are assuming you know what you're talking about. Which you don't.

Don't speak for my readers. My readers are FULLY aware that I have no idea what I am talking about. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS, I admit that I have no validation to anything I write. So perhaps if you, Mr. Public Defender, took the time to research what you have read on this site, then you'd see clearly that I speak out of my ass on all subjects. It just happens to be that 100 000 + readers a month enjoy my ass.

What's worse is when a potential customer, who may have heard about White Tail Park and wants to learn more, does a Google search and yours is one of the top 9 results on the first page. Just tell me how favorable you expect that person's impression of this park if going to be if he or she clicks on your link.

It's a phucking NUDE camp for juveniles. What can I possible say that can affect White Tail? People can make up their own minds.

C'mon, SpeedMonkey! Show us if you're human enough to own up to to what you've done and apologize to Bob Roche for it on your website.

SpeedMonkey just got a call from someone who said they were 'Bob Roche' the owner of White Tail Park. Of course he's talking about 'slander' and such.. but again, nothing has been written here that has accused anybody of anything. Not wrongfully anyway. Nothing has even been implied.

White Tail Park is a nudist park. Last year they ran a camp for juvenile's between the ages of 11 - 18. That's not a lie - so what exactly Mr. Roche are you upset about?

What exactly do you think was written about you that is so slanderous? (Incidentally Bob, it's 'LIBLE', not slander). You run a nudist park that has a camp for naked juveniles.. who's parents aren't required to attend. What part of the story is untruthful ? Are you not the proud owner? Is the park not in Virginia?

People are allowed to express their opinions Bob. Everyday somebody is calling the President an ass, or a liar... is that not allowed? It's freedom of speech Bob. Don't get all bent out of shape just because somebody has taken an interest in your park and has decided to write about it.

Anyway The Governor, Mark Warner, has decided to put a stop to this obvious display of wrongness. He is trying to pass a bill that bars the state Department of Health from licensing any hotel, summer camp or campground that holds activities for nude minors whose parents or guardians are not "registered for or otherwise accompanying the juvenile."

In Response to this proposed bill, Roche says: "It's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen a governor do," Roche said in a telephone interview from White Tail, home to 35 families year-round and 140 part-time. He said Warner's amendment is unconstitutional and he intends to sue to overturn it. Roche said White Tail is holding another au naturel camp for youths in July, but he had not yet determined whether parental presence will be compulsory.

Dude, all the Governor wants to do is to make sure that there is proper supervision.

Initially, the NAACP got involved. It seemed that they objected to the use of 'White Tail' stating that many African American women are perfectly fine tail too...
