"The people of Alaska benefit," said spokesman Bill Bradshaw of the U.S. Forest Service, part of the Agriculture Department.

Mark Rey, the Agriculture Department's undersecretary in charge of forest policy, said that as a practical matter, 95 percent of the roadless areas in the two national forests would remain off-limits to development.

95% would remain off limits TO DEVELOPMENT. Kids, if we read between the lines it is clear that this new proposal will destroy well more than the proposed 3% of the forest's 9.3 million acres.

95% off limits... and they are only proposing to use 3%.. which brings us to 98%... Um, I failed functions, but what about the other 2% ? Ambiguous percentages in a land the size of Alaska could mean the destruction of 10's of thousands of acres and wildlife.

Off limits "to development" does not mean off limits to excess foot traffic, waste, sewers systems and on and on... Bush has created a snag in Alaska's blanket of beauty (yeah I know..) and like all snags it will start to pull.. and eventually it all un ravels.

300 000 acres of forest can be cut down in a month... then what? wait another 100 years? This is just the beginning of a brutal new and barron world.

300 000 acres of wood.. how big of an impact does that really have an our global economy, I mean really.. 300 000 acres? Is it worth it? That's like 6 houses worth of trees in LA. So once the acres are gone and truck parts and oil spills spew throughout the land... what next? Will they really stop at  300 000? Georgie?

But thank God, we've rid the world of evil. All the bunnies can rest now.
