Seeing as how it made shit in the box office and didn't fly high with most critics, I rented this thing to fall asleep to... and ended up laughing my ass off.

Granted, the first half works more than the second, but holy toledo, it works more than anything the Farrelly Brothers have done in years, and the same goes for Ben Stiller. Here, he reminds us WHY he's that guy who plays the neurotic loser -- no one could do better.

Half of the best laughs in this thing are Stiller's mere reactions to the obnoxious world around him. He portrays a guy who's 40 and has never been married, and his nice guy insecurity ends up winning his good sense over when he leaps into marriage with a new hot blonde he's had six nice weeks with (I'm a dick for forgetting the actress' name, she was great and had a role that afforded more female-induced laughs than most any other comedy seems to allow nowadays).

While on their honeymoon, Stiller meets Melissa (the always impressive Michelle Monaghan), the cool-fun-sassy gal who, while not as entertaining to us as his psycho wife, wins him over instantly. It's here where the movie becomes a little more of a go-get-the-girl story with some funny parts inserted instead of the laugh-out-loud festival of weird shit that it started as, and we're left missing Stiller's psycho wife more than being supportive of his happiness.

The worst part of it is that we really are drawn in to the emotional side of Stiller from the beginning, but sadly the sequence where he's falling for Psycho Chick is more charming than when he falls for Cool Gal. Either way, it's good enough to wanna see again, had more huge laughs than any other comedy I've seen this year (Gasp! Am I allowed to say that? I know it's "The Year of Apatow" and all), and was unforgivably overlooked.

It mentions on the DVD that this version has been edited for content, and it wasn't from any Christian-run rental spot, so maybe they trimmed some stupid crap from the theatrical version to help it flow better. If that's the case, it worked.
