Director Danny Boyle has given us something here that no retarded sack of shit like Michael Bay can -- a special effects extravaganza that's also an actual good movie.

Taking place in the near future, where the sun is losing power, hence putting the Earth into a new ice age that's killing people, "Sunshine" is about the team of astronauts send to deliver a bomb that will re-ignite the biggest star in the universe (yes, the sun). Helmed by a surprisingly well-constructed cast (Cillian Murphy, Michelle Yeoh, Cliff Curtis, Chris Adams -- yes, the fire guy from "Fantastic Four," and he's actually great), this film is as convincing as science fiction really gets.

It may seem like you'd rather hold off on something with some man-eating aliens in it for our next space movie, but trust me, that's just the retard in you talking -- this thing is ten times more entertaining than the bulk of carnivorous martian flicks, and it's likely the best looking of its kind since Kubrick's "2001." I'm not gonna get into the details of what kinds of obstacles a crew that's trying to re-ignite the sun has to make it through, that's kind of part of the point of going to the theater and seeing it, but I will say the stakes get raised constantly enough to keep anybody from getting bored.

With the exception of a few less-than-perfect filmic devices that only stand out because of how damn perfect the rest of it is, one wouldn't be way out of line calling "Sunshine" a modern science fiction classic.
