Far From Heaven, Movie Review
This 50's style drama, based on people's inability to look beneath the surface and the consequences of those who do, is a metaphor for its own theme.

Was this purposeful? I hope so, because that makes it brilliant. It may be though that this nonetheless decent film was lacking depth.

The quintessential nice black man in a white man's world (Dennis Haysbert) is the simplest one, for there never is a twist to him.

There's nothing beneath the surface. He's just a nice, educated black guy who happens to be an attractive single father too. No wonder the fake-smiles white housewife (Julianne Moore) goes for him and reveals her true inner passions to us. However, there is nothing more to the black guy than the fact that he's a perfectly normal dude.

Is that all the surface we get to delve beneath for the black guy, his skin? The same went for the upstanding suburban father (Dennis Quaid) who turns out to have a liking for the cock. Under the surface of a perfectly normal business man, he's gay.

So gay that he falls in love with another gay guy after just one glance. There was a feeling of emptiness for me as the movie ended, for I would've appreciated a better explanation as to what exactly Julianne Moore and Dennis Haybert's characters saw in each other, etc. instead of just another flick about how prejudice can be misleading.

But hey, like I said, maybe the whole point was to be mad about having just skimmed the surface by the end. We'll assume I'm an idiot and give it four bongs for now.
