Dana White, MMA Fighter, UFC
If you had to pinpoint one individual as being most instrumental in the UFC's evolution from a brawling, human cockfighting bloodsport into a technically sound, fighter-driven commercially viable enterprise, it would have to be Dana White, president and CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

A tireless and forward-thinking advocate of the sport, White has quickly moved the UFC into the forefront of fighting sports and into the mainstream national consciousness.  White has slowly added regional outfits (like the popular California-based WEC) to the UFC stable and has positioned his company as the clear leader in the mixed martial arts industry.  In fact, if you look strictly at the pay-per-view receipts and gate revenues, MMA has already eclipsed boxing in its popularity.

White helped orchestrate a deal to purchase the UFC from its original parent company (Semaphore Entertainment Group) in January 2001.  A charismatic and persuasive speaker, White convinced Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta to form Zuffa and purchase the UFC, in which White now holds a 10% equity interest.

Before purchasing the UFC, White owned three gyms in the Las Vegas area and manged MMA legends Tito Ortiz and Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell.
