Ask her out but be casual. It's imperative at this point that she is as confused by your intentions as you are by hers. So always remain casual. Chicks have this thing about being lonely at night. Guys, we have a quick toss, toll over and fall asleep. The more room in the bed, the better. Women on the other hand have this thing where they want to be cuddled and held. It's a security thing.

With this in mind, you've gotta set it up so she thinks you're the sweetest guy in the world. This is what's gonna happen, she's gonna go out with her friends, get drunk, come home alone, get sad, then she's gonna knock on your door for another "drink."

You're the nicest guy in her building and she feels safe with you in a city at night... so oblige her. Make sure to have a few wine coolers in the fridge and a couple of beers (for yourself)

She'll get all emotional and perhaps that's when you start to "cuddle" with her. I know it sucks... but you gotta cuddle, she's drunk and she needs comfort. Alternatively, she's drunk and just wants to fuck the shit out of you... I'm confident at this point you'll be able to tell the difference.

So play it cool Nathan. Because of the proximity in which you live, you have to be the "nice" guy. In the end it's better to be considered, "the nice friend" than, "that creepy pig."

Oh and another thing, leave the flowers at home. NEVER bring flowers on your first date.
