During one of my most recent rejections, the girl went back to her boyfriend of 8 years. They were about to get married but then broke up months back.

He showed up one day at her place promising to change his ways. As is the case, a lot of shit had been said during their break-up but now they're going to try to work it out.

They have a different point of view. Say for example he hates her parents and her friends but he promises to make an effort. Or, he doesn't mow the lawn when he's 'supposed' to. Whatever he does or doesn't do, she doesn't like it. Crow, crow, crow...

During their break up period, he doesn't go out, he doesn't meet anyone, he doesn't do anything. He inevitably gets lonely and realizes he'd rather put up with her constant pecking than be alone (idiot). He promises to change.

He starts to clean up after himself, he conversates with his mom.. (I'm kidding - 'conversate' is not a word kids despite what those nice rappers may tell you). You suggest spending time with her friends, you wear nicer clothes.. whatever she wants you to do, you tell her you'll do it.

Look, like sea monkey's it works... they actually do grow and change...but for how long? About a month or so; something your mother nor those comic book coupons ever warned you about (or, 'aboot'..depending).

I'm sure it's the same of women, but we are creatures of habit. Some of us are just more creatures than anything... We'll give it our best shot for a month, maybe two but soon after that, we begin to revert back to our old ways... why? Because that's what we like. If we didn't, we wouldn't have been there in the first place.

So let's not fool ourselves into thinking that things will just somehow change because the two of you are going to give it your best shot... it just won't happen.

Unless you're willing to get some serious Dr. Phil help, then relying on yourselves to change is foolish. Actually, what's more foolish is waiting 10 years to find out.
