Actually, it's normal to act like an 'ass' or to at least to think we are acting like one. When we're around someone that we really like, we tend to get a little goofy and have a tendency to act a little weird.

Here's the thing, get used to your girlfriends liking every guy you do. As you get older, they just hide the fact that they like them then sneak behind your back. A good man is hard to find - so is a woman - BUT with all the financial responsibility that goes along with getting older, a good man is important for a woman - so when you like someone, then that must mean he's a good man - suddenly your girl-friend's radar goes off and now she's 'attracted' to him.

To paraphrase Chris Rock, whereas guys want to know how to get a woman that's LIKE their friend's girlfriend, wife etc. Women want to know how to get their friend's boyfriend, husband etc.

So by nature women are already pretty catty, so either this is a 'one off' and she (your friend) will get over it and the two of you can laugh about it in 10 years OR she's always been a cow and she'll continue 'cock blocking' everything you want. A job, a guy, a car...

As far as getting him to like you - he may get a little bugged out after watching you and your friend battle it out for female domination. Actually that wouldn't be too bad to see.

It'll all work itself out. But you're right in thinking that you shouldn't waste your friendship on a guy - but then again, she doesn't seem to care. So judge it accordingly. Will you be friends with this girl in 5 years from now VS. will you marry this guy?
