TagsStop Thinking Him |
natureofproject: I'll start off by saying I am a huge fan of the site and your writing. I agree with everything you have to say for the most part, and I like how what you say is real. Anyway, getting to the point... I'm one of the pathetic losers you describe in countless articles. You know, someone that looks to internet articles for dating advice. I like what you have to say, but I can't seem to follow the advice, even though I know it's right. My problem: I'm 18, I like this guy, it'll probably never amount to anything, whatever, but I can't forget him. Inevitably, he has a girlfriend. I'm trying to suck it up and move on, but he's there all the time, constantly reminding me how wonderful he is. I am perfectly aware of the fact that I sound ridiculous, but ****...I really like him! I don't know that another person exists in the world that I can connect with in the same way. Advice on how to deal with this bs? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SM: Okay, first off your problem isn't that you like this guy... your problem is you don't listen to good advice. Question, have you ever been outside of State lines? Ever been out of the country? Out of the city? There is not only one other person that exists in this world with whom you can connect, there are 100's... Do you really think that in this great world of ours, that the guy you are 'connected with' has a locker across the hall? Or shares the same homeroom? Come on, that's retarded. But on to the bigger issue; you're only 18. You have no business dating anyone or getting caught up in all sorts of bullshit drama. You need to be out there having the time of your phucking life. That's doesn't mean become a whore... it just means that you have plenty of time for drama in the years to come.. marriage, kids, divorce... death, bosses... etc. As you get older, you'll have so much shit to deal with that you'll be wishing for the days when you were all hung up on some guy.. who's name you now don't even remember. So the best way to deal with this 'bs' is to just keep on living. What are the other options? Call him everyday and ask him if he likes you? Try to get him to breakup with his girlfriend? Then what? Forget about having a 'boyfriend'. Everyone around you probably thinks having a boyfriend or girlfriend is really cool... that's because we all need some kind of validation from someone else. Keep one thing in mind - you'll be married (maybe) one day... then you'll be spending the next 50 years with the same crusty old fart... so get some perspective and stop being such a 'pathetic loser' Hope this helps. SM.
