I went camping with my buddy last weekend. That’s me, on the lookout for bears. We hiked through King’s Canyon which is really the northern part of Sequoia National Park. Needless to say it was the most spectacular experience of my life – second of course to watching my children come out of their cocoon… (I had to write that in, wife was looking over my shoulder…like she always does). There were more stars in the sky than I ever thought existed. Then I thought of my daughter who loves the song, “twinkle twinkle little star” and how living in Los Angeles, she’ll never get to see real stars. It made me sad. But in order to see anything that resembles a night’s sky, we’d have to drive miles, and hours out of the city, and that’s just not happening right now. A 3 year old strapped in a car seat for 3-4 hours… and not getting to see Mickey?! That could turn ugly. So I’ll wait a few more years and hope by then we still have stars in the sky! (CNN) — The #worstcharity in America operates from a metal warehouse behind a gas station in Holiday, Florida. Every year, Kids Wish Network raises millions of dollars in donations in the name of dying children and their families. Every year, it spends less than 3 cents on the dollar helping kids. Most of the rest gets diverted to enrich the charity’s operators and the for-profit companies Kids Wish hires to drum up donations.
In the past decade alone, Kids Wish has channeled nearly $110 million donated for sick children to its corporate solicitors. An additional $4.8 million has gone to pay the charity’s founder and his own consulting firms.
No charity in the nation has siphoned more money away from the needy over a longer period of time. But Kids Wish is not an isolated case, a yearlong investigation by the Tampa Bay Times and The Center for Investigative Reporting has found. Using state and federal records, the Times and CIR identified nearly 6,000 charities that have chosen to pay for-profit companies to raise their donations. Then reporters took an unprecedented look back to zero in on the 50 worst – based on the money they diverted to boiler room operators and other solicitors over a decade.

Robert Downey Jr. made a toddler cry because he wasn’t the ‘real’ Iron Man. The actor – best known for playing the superhero and his billionaire alter ego Tony Stark – left 18-month-old superfan Jaxson Denno in floods of tears because he wasn’t wearing his character’s trademark red and gold suit in public.
Heather Denno, Jaxson’s mother, was left to console her sobbing son, who was devastated to discover his favourite Marvel comics hero was a work of fiction. She told People magazine: ‘He was fine as soon as he talked to him. [He] was so confused because I kept telling him it was Iron Man and he knew it wasn’t. Well, not Iron Man in the suit.’
The 48-year-old star – who appeared visibly worried about having dashed Jaxson’s dreams – ran into the mother and son while out for a walk in their neighbourhood of Sunderland and Shelburne Falls where he is shooting his new drama, The Judge.
Heather says the charming Hollywood star managed to cheer up the boy. She told Celebuzz: ‘He was there for 10 minutes just to get a good picture and make Jaxson smile. And his people kept telling him he had to leave and was late for shooting, so I can’t believe he stayed. ‘He was amazing. You could tell he was a dad with a young son.’ Read more
