I got a phone call the other day, in fact 2 phone calls within weeks apart from 2 different post offices. You see about a month ago, I went to the local post office in Los Feliz. I needed to get a passport for my daughter, so after looking online for their hours of operation, I drove down, papers in hand. Once I got there, I was told I needed to make an appointment. Confused, I told the guy behind the desk that the website said nothing of needing an appointment. He simply shrugged his shoulders and told me to try to one on Wilcox in Hollywood.
I drag my poor kid back into the car and drive into Hollywood. I wait at the appropriate window, and wait. I finally ask the guy who’s standing at the window what’s up? He rudely informs me (as if I’m inconveniencing him) that he’s not actually on shift and that the window only opens at 11am… in 30 minutes. Again, the website reads 9am… but who wants to listen. I try to complain to some “manager” who obviously doesn’t care.
So, I wrote a letter. I wrote a letter to the postmaster general, Pat Donahoe. I let him know what, I’m sure he already knows. The USPS is no doubt one of the most unpleasant, inefficient organizations in the US. They are hemorrhaging money, yet they still find time to turn people away because they don’t have appointments?! I send the letter and a few weeks later I get phone calls from the supervisors of both the Los Feliz and Hollywood Post Office. The letter doesn’t actually make it to the postmaster himself, it goes to the various departments in question. Good to know.
