I went to a kid’s party this weekend. You’d think I’d be forced by law to stay away. No such luck. I had to go my my wife’s, co-worker’s daughters 2 year old birthday. Got all that? So it was not only this weekend, it was yesterday (Sunday) and not only on a Sunday, but at 10AM. and yes, not only at 10AM… but 40 minutes away. Turns out Giants didn’t even show up, so really, I didn’t miss much.

Anyway, turns out having a social life is very expensive. Which is why I try my best to never talk to people. But now having a kid, there’s really no choice, you have to be social. Lest, your kid take after you and grow up to be a weird anti-social nut job. They’ll have plenty of time to learn how crappy people are and they’ll develop their own hate towards society in due course. But for now, let them eat cake!

We’ve been to 4 parties in 6 weeks. 4! 4 gifts, 4 arguments with the wife, 4 trips 40 minutes away… But that’s not really the worst of it. The worst – those ‘effing gift bags. I have a $20 budget for a kid’s gift. But my wife includes a $10 gift bag with f*cking tissue paper and ribbons and bows… $30. I told her $20. She says, “the gift was only $20…” WTF??!!

Fine, I get having to go to a 2 year old’s party. 10AM on a Sunday, that’s a bit rough… but whatever. 40 minutes away? This is LA, that needs to be expected. Sucks, but expected. $10 on a G*d damn gift bag that HOLDS the gift? I can go to Albertson’s and get plastic bags all day long… but a gift bag? How did all this happen, or worse become expected? How is there an industry that survives off of making gift bags?
